{"id":190,"date":"2013-04-01T20:42:24","date_gmt":"2013-04-01T20:42:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/virtualworlduk.co.uk\/?p=190"},"modified":"2013-04-01T20:42:24","modified_gmt":"2013-04-01T20:42:24","slug":"part-8-recovery-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.virtualworlduk.co.uk\/wordp\/part-8-recovery-plans\/","title":{"rendered":"Part 8 &#8211; Recovery Plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Now we reach the stage of creating a recovery plan.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click \u2018Recovery Plans\u2019 in the Site Recovery Manager portal<\/li>\n<li>Click \u2018Create Recovery Plan\u2019<\/li>\n<li>You are now asked to select the site where the VMs will be recovered, select the desired site, then click \u2018Next\u2019<\/li>\n<li>Now you should tick the \u2018Protection Groups\u2019 to be included in this recovery plan to select them, then click \u2018Next\u2019<\/li>\n<li>You are now presented with the option to select the networks to be used when performing tests on the recovery plan, you can either select real networks or leave it as \u2018Auto\u2019 for SRM to automatically create a new isolated network environment\u2026 as a rule of thumb we would normally leave these as \u2018Auto\u2019, then click \u2018Next\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>Enter a name and description for the plan and then click \u2018Next\u2019<\/li>\n<li>Click \u2018Finish\u2019 to create the recovery plan<\/li>\n<li>Selecting the \u2018Recovery Plan\u2019 will show the status of the recovery plan.\u00a0 At the top of the screen you will also see two options, one to \u2018Test\u2019 and one for \u2018Recovery\u2019.\u00a0 Clicking the \u2018Test\u2019 button will executre a Test DR failover, placing the VMs in an isolated test network.\u00a0 Recovery will execute a real failover and place all of the VMs on the relevant network in the destination.<\/li>\n<li>We should now review some of the settings in the \u2018Recovery Plan\u2019.\u00a0 Click the \u2018Virtual Machines\u2019 tab.\u00a0 By default all virtual machines are placed in the \u2018Power On Priority 3 VM\u2019s\u2019 group.\u00a0 You can give a virtual machine higher or lower priority simply by clicking on the virtual machine and changing the priority.\u00a0 Higher priority VMs will start before lower priority VMs.<\/li>\n<li>There may be a requirement to change the IP configuration depending on the location where the virtual machines are located.\u00a0 The IP Address can therefore be configured as required.<\/li>\n<li>Double-click on the virtual machine, select the \u2018IP Settings\u2019, then tick the box \u2018Customize IP settings during recovery\u2019.\u00a0 You can then click \u2018Configure Recovery\u2019 to enter the new IP Address information for the virtual machine<\/li>\n<li>If you update the IP Address configuration, you should also update the DNS entries on the \u2018DNS\u2019 tab<\/li>\n<li>You should also configure the \u2018Protection\u2019 site settings (the source location) as this will be required to be able to perform a failback without having to configure all of the settings at that time.<\/li>\n<li>Click the \u2018Recovery Steps\u2019 tab to see the steps involved with the recovery plan<\/li>\n<li>With a recovery plan in place, you can log onto the destination location and see the virtual machines listed with an SRM logo to show that they are a placeholder for the VM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This ends Part 8 of our instructions&#8230; please click\u00a0<a title=\"Part 9 \u2013 Testing Recovery Plan\" href=\"http:\/\/virtualworlduk.co.uk\/part-9-testing-recovery-plan\/\">here<\/a>\u00a0to continue to Part 9 or\u00a0<a title=\"10-part Site Recovery Manager \u2013 with IBM XIV\" href=\"http:\/\/virtualworlduk.co.uk\/10-part-site-recovery-manager-with-ibm-xiv\/\">here<\/a>\u00a0to return to the 10-part Site Recovery Manager menu.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Now we reach the stage of creating a recovery plan.
