{"id":420,"date":"2014-08-20T14:28:49","date_gmt":"2014-08-20T13:28:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/virtualworlduk.co.uk\/?p=420"},"modified":"2014-08-20T14:28:49","modified_gmt":"2014-08-20T13:28:49","slug":"host-not-recognising-datastore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.virtualworlduk.co.uk\/wordp\/host-not-recognising-datastore\/","title":{"rendered":"Host Not Recognising Datastore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve come across this issue on a couple of occasions and thought that I would share with people one of the easiest ways to resolve it.<\/p>\n<p>A summary of the issue is as follows:<\/p>\n<p>You have presented up a LUN that may have been previously presented to another host and when you go through the vCenter GUI or Web Client to add in the datastore (selecting the &#8216;Keep Existing Signature&#8217; option), the command appears to complete successfully but the datastore does not appear in the GUI.<\/p>\n<p>The simplest way I have found to resolve this issue is to follow these steps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enable SSH on the host that is experiencing this problem<\/li>\n<li>Log onto the host using Putty<\/li>\n<li>Type the following:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<pre>esxcfg-volume -l<\/pre>\n<ul>\n<li>This will now provide you with a list of the datastores that can be mounted but aren&#8217;t currently showing on that host<\/li>\n<li>Make a note of the vmfs label name as you will need it in a minute, next type:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<pre>esxcfg-volume -m \"<em>vmfs_volume_label<\/em>\"<\/pre>\n<ul>\n<li>You can now disconnect from putty<\/li>\n<li>Go back to the GUI or web client and rescan the storage and the missing datastore should now appear.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat the process on any other hosts or datastores that are also experiencing the same issue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve come across this issue on a couple of occasions and thought that I would share with people one of the easiest ways to resolve it.
